Description Reinout van Schouwen 2012-04-10 01:11:41 CEST
Description of problem:
After attaching an HP PSC 1410 multifunctional device, Mageia kicks off with the installation of task-printing-server and lots of dependencies.

Afterwards, the archaic XScanImage and XSane utilities are available from the menus.

The simple and modern "just works" Simple Scan package, however, hides under the task-scanning metapackage.
Instead, I would expect task-scanning and Simple Scan to be installed upon detection of the device, instead of XScanImage that my mother certainly couldn't use to scan a photo.

Comment 1 Reinout van Schouwen 2012-04-10 23:00:30 CEST
You have misinterpreted my bug report. Simple-scan *is* a dependency of task-scanning.
This bug report is about the fact that task-scanning is *not* installed upon detection of the printer/scanner, so that the unsuspecting user is stuck with scanning tools that should have been obsoleted long ago.

Summary: add simple-scan in task-scanning => install task-scanning after printer/scanner detected

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja
