How reproducible: make a clean install in sda2 having LMDE in SDA1; accept Mageia's defaults concerning GRUB; on reboot only Mageia is listed. CC:

working grub with windows 7
it works for me, see attached menu.lst
did you add a mount point for your windows partition ?
mine was automatically set as /media/windows
could you paste your menu.lst and your /etc/fstab ?

Only thing that I can think of is that this is a Dell laptop wich has 3 partitions for windows. Windows itself is installed on sda3 but windows is started from sda2 partition. Just a guess @Andres, please attach /root/drakx/report.bug.gz from the installed system. Assignee:

sorry but in your menu.lst I see title windows root (hd0,1) chainloader +1 so if you choose that entry you should be able to boot windows. Yes as I need Windows sometimes I added it manually.

maarten.vanraes had the same issue. With me, it's one of those laptops with windows preloaded, and it was never started before, but the semi-installation is there. Also Mandriva 2010.0 had been on it and it wasn't detected either for grub, (except that it was listed as an upgrade possibility)

Just a guess see https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=785, comment 2 That was a duplicate, only the platform was different Did the problem still exist in Mageia 1 rc (or in 1 official)? CC:

thierry.vignaud @ Assignee Please confirm this bug was assigned correctly by putting "OK" on the whiteboard or by confirming in a comment Ok, but I haven't test it with latest Alpha iso's. Wanted to waint til beta. (In reply to comment #13) > Ok, but I haven't test it with latest Alpha iso's. Wanted to waint til beta. @ Andres, Thanks for being willing to test with Mga 2 beta :) BTW, with "Assignee" I meant the person to whom we assigned this bug to fix it ;) * running: blkid -o udev -p /dev/sda1 * blkid gave: vfat 07D9-0C05 DellUtility * running: blkid -o udev -p /dev/sda2 * blkid gave: ntfs-3g A474239774236B6E RECOVERY * running: blkid -o udev -p /dev/sda3 * blkid gave: ntfs-3g 0C8E26C18E26A2E6 OS It seems your sda2 is called RECOVERY, which is why it gets ignored. huh? you mean it's ignored because it's called 'RECOVERY'? there is such a hardcoded check? Yes.

lol... the thing is... what if you bought a laptop which has a windows on it, but you've never initialized it? (like my wife's laptop?) iirc the windows wasn't on it, that's why i'm following this bug. so it also means that i can never initialize(you know, choosing language and stuff) that windows? Pinging, because nothing has happened with this report for more than 3 months, it still has the status NEW or REOPENED. Fixed Status:
