It used to be that if SPLASH=no was set in /etc/sysconfig/bootsplash, when mkinitrd was run it would not include the graphical boot stuff that covers the boot messages into the initrd.  Now the correct way to disable it is to remove "splash" from the kernel command line in the grub or lilo config.  The bootsplash sysconfig and README files should be updated to reflect this.

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

I'm not familiar with how bootsplash works, but it would be nice if someone who knows could update the /etc/sysconfig/bootsplash and /usr/share/doc/bootsplash/README files.  At the very least, the mention of SPLASH=no should be removed, as it's no longer respected.  Maybe SPLASH isn't used at all, and I don't know if THEME or LOGO_CONSOLE are used anymore either.  I just booted a Mageia 1 VM yesterday and say the logo on the console, and it stood out to me because we don't have that anymore, so I'm guessing LOGO_CONSOLE isn't used anymore either.  Maybe the /etc/sysconfig/bootsplash file isn't needed at all anymore.

Also, the URL in the package spec refers to SVN instead of git.  That should be updated if it has been migrated.

OpenMandriva's make-boot-splash-raw

It would be nice if a programmer who understands this code (Anssi, Colin) could take a quick look at this bug and also compare our make-boot-splash-raw to OpenMandriva's to see if is any value in the differences between them (the other files don't have any notable differences).  Also, it'd be nice to increment the version of this package to at least 3.4.2 so theirs doesn't "appear" newer :o)
