Description Romain d'Alverny 2012-03-27 17:46:37 CEST
The installation process takes some time to complete, from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on several factors (power, disk IO, network IO). A large amount of it does not require human attention, being automatic.

 * some may unnecessarily stay next to the computer, waiting for the installation to complete;
 * others may switch to something else, forget about the installation, and realize several hours later that it paused, waiting for some action from them.

In both situations, valuable time is lost.

Installer could ring a bell * when it is done or requires user input. That way, a person installing the system:
 - can quietly do something else than... staring,
 - will be notified in an unobstructive way when the program asks for her input (end of install or intermediary step).

* perl -e 'print "\a";' would do for a start, but of course, if audio interface is available, a better specific sound would be welcome.

We don't include sound drivers in installer.
Doing so would blot the installer (+15% on boot.iso).

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

So what about just a 'print "\a";' for such an event?
