| Summary: | [WISH] Consider having the installer install all dev-packs for each package so it's more easy to compile & build. Saves a lot of time as well. | ||

RESOLVED Space-problems? I'm not talking about the disk. And this is meant when you use the boot.iso to install. Including the dev packages with the Development checkbox would probably be a rude surprise for folks that aren't expecting it. But there's no reason you can't request a new checkbox for all the dev packages that isn't checked by default. Done right, this would be greyed out (disabled) if installing from a DVD since most of the packages wouldn't be available. Also, it would make more sense (but probably require a new model) if it only installed dev packages whose corresponding base packages were being installed. CC:

That's what I meant. This might be able to build on the same model used for language support. I *think* (but I'm not sure) that we record your multi-language choices so that later when we install packages with multi-language support we install the correct set of language packages a the same time. This could work the same way, so that in later installs of a base package you automatically get the dev package as well. Since this would only be available on the "Custom" panel, it would be targeted to advanced users. Come to that, developers/debuggers could probably use a similar option for insalling debug packages automatically. |
