inkscape should have uniconvertor as a requires or min as a suggest othewise it cannot open adobe illustrator 8.0 or older files.

I think it is the case for inkscape-0.48.1-2.1.mga1. This has been added following bug 3545 (https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3545).
