Description Malo Deniélou 2012-02-24 14:17:05 CET
Description of problem:
In a minimal install, with task-lxde added (which pulls task-x11) and emacs, when lauching the graphical (Gtk) emacs, the window that appears has its caracters replaced by squares.

There is probably a missing requires on some font package.

Fonts are a special case.. there was a possibility to install Opera without any fonts. I don't think this is possible to resolve, like there is no a requirement on man for man pages..

Hum there are a lot of suggest not http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages/cauldron/task-x11/current/SPECS/task-x11.spec?revision=64977&view=markup ?

Hello!

We shall handle all fonts for a standard (western) applications. It is impossible to add a specific font for every application, so therefoe we an fix it univerally in a common lix11 package.

The one I suggest is xorg-x11-fonts, it's needed for some old timers, like XBoard.

After determining what is needed for Emacs, we should add it too.

New summary (sorry to change again):

In a minimal install, with task-lxde added (which pulls task-x11), but without suggests and emacs,
when lauching the graphical (Gtk) emacs, the window that appears has its
caracters replaced by squares. It is solved by installing a ttf font package, like liberation or dejavu.

There is probably a missing requires on some font package.

Summary: In a minimal install, task-x11 does not install any font => In a minimal install, emacs should require a font package
Source RPM: task-x11 => emacs

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

Could you identify what would be the minimal font packages to add to task-x11?
