Description Shlomi Fish 2012-01-28 09:34:13 CET
Description of problem:

I cannot connect to the wireless/wifi on kernel-3.2.2. I have this card:

<<<
ath9k : Atheros Communications Inc.|AR928X Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) [NETWORK_OTHER] (vendor:168c device:002a subv:105b subd:e01f) (rev: 01)
>>>

It works fine on kernel-3.2.1-2 (which is what I'm using now).

I have this computer:

<<<
Acer Aspire 5738DZG laptop with the following specs:

    Intel Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4300 @ 2.10GHz. (x86-64).
    ATI Mobility Radeon⢠HD 4570 (r700)
    15.6×´ 3D HD LCD Screen.
    3 GB Memory
    320 GB Hard Disk Drive.
    âDVD Super Multi DL driveâ
    Acer Nplify⢠802.11b/g/n.
>>>

The MCC dialogue for the network centre/center displays fine and shows all wifi connections, but I cannot connect to my home one.

How reproducible:

Always.

Have you errors in syslog ?

I'll see if I do and I'll post them soon. They will require a reboot.

The errors in the syslog when running the control centre

These are the errors I'm getting on the syslog with the new kernel.

OK, I've now tested it with a vanilla Linux kernel (version 3.2.2) from kernel.org and the same problem happens there. I guess it's a global problem with the kernel. I'll see what I can do about reporting it there.

There's a proposed fix for this problem which works for me with a vanilla kernel from kernel.org. Maybe we should apply it in the Mageia kernel as well:

Can this patch be applied? I am now using the vanilla 3.2.5 kernel and I'm having some problems with systemd's "systemctl" command not working properly with the vanilla kernel, while it does with the distribution kernel (which still doesn't have networking). Even after I fix this, I don't know what else would be broken and I'd rather use a distribution kernel.
