alien if you do something like "urpmi mysql", it will install mariadb because mysql is a provide where do you search for mysql? there is planned a sort of short message on some webpages which explain the important changes regarding previous version, i still have to do that Keywords:

NEEDINFO Maybe virtual package should be created. That has description about what's going on and it would install mariadb main server package. This way it would show up in GUI. I'm not sure GUI is able to find provides. CC:

sander.lepik When I want to install MySQL I write "mysql" in the search line in MCC and then I choose packages. A virtual package seems a good idea. ah, in rpmdrake... it does not work, indeed... what if i would make a mysql-MariaDB virtual package? would that satisfy your needs? Yes, I use rpmdrake. I think many users do not know urpmi and use only MCC. I have not found how to make a research on a word with urpmi. Yes , a virtual package will satisfy me. (In reply to comment #7) > I have not found how to make a research on a word with urpmi. urpmq --help ;) (In reply to comment #7) > Yes, I use rpmdrake. Excuse me but I did not know urpmq. Yes "urpmi mysql" install mariadb but if searching with "urmpq -a mysql" there is not mariadb and for the other commands is the same. With a virtual package all works. can anyone else test the virtual package too? see if it can be found? then if the documentation is put, i think we can close this issue? (In reply to comment #11) > can anyone else test the virtual package too? see if it can be found? then if > the documentation is put, i think we can close this issue? I had found the virtual package mysql-MariaDB with urmpq -a mysql and rpmdrake. It works OK but with rpmdrake at the end of install there is not the message for password. normally, one gets the message only once. when updating from mysql, or installing from new. (In reply to comment #11) > can anyone else test the virtual package too? see if it can be found? then if > the documentation is put, i think we can close this issue? I can confirm that, when looking in MCC for mysql, mysql-MariaDB shows up nicely with "A MySQL drop-in replacement" summary under it. When selecting it, it says that to satisfy dependencies.....also need to be installed: - mariadb-<version> - mariadb-extra-<version> (Can't c&p because I'm looking at my cauldron, not typing on it) Or do you want me to check whether it installs fine, too? marja11 no, this is really about the message now. upgrading from mysql -> mariadb (or new install) should give the message (about mariadb and how you're supposed to start it and set a password) once, and every update thereafter not again so, either someone tests again, or original person closes as WORKSFORME or just closing OLD. or someome has info if that message doesn't appear in those cases, in which case i'll take a look. no upgrade, new install: the message appears I can't test updating, of course good enough for me, unless someone objects, this can be closed. (In reply to comment #17) > good enough for me, unless someone objects, this can be closed. so closing feel free to reopen if needed, and explain what is wrong Status:
