Description Mahmoud Hossam 2011-03-15 13:48:25 CET
Netbeans is an IDE, typically used by Java developers, it also supports a variety of other languages, like PHP, Ruby, C/C++ and Javascript.

I'd like to see the latest stable version of netbeans included in Mageia (Netbeans 6.9.1 at the time of this writing).

Target Milestone: --- => Mageia 1

Comment 1 Frank Griffin 2011-03-15 14:20:17 CET
Might as well wait for 7.0, which is due imminently.

Comment 2 Mahmoud Hossam 2011-03-15 14:23:11 CET
NB 7.0 depends on JDK 7, which is currently unstable, and will remain that way even after Mageia's release.

Maybe we could put NB 6.9.1 in the main repo, and NB 7.0 in backports?
Comment 3 Frank Griffin 2011-03-15 14:29:15 CET
7.0 has *support* for JDK 7 features, it doesn't depend on it. In fact, the NetBeans site says that the version they use to test is JDK6 build 24.

adding netbean is in the pipe, i just need maven first which is now my task ( now that eclipse is available )

Comment 5 Mahmoud Hossam 2011-03-15 16:20:27 CET
@Frank Maybe it doesn't require it, but 6.9.1 would be a safe bet since we don't know when 7.0 will be released.

Some distributions have very outdated versions of netbeans, and people don't complain since they download and install it straight from the website.

@Morgan Thank you for the information.

FYI
I'm runing Mageia 1 beta 1 inside VMware Workstation 7.1.
I have just installed Netbeans 7.0 RC2.
I installed it at;
/home/jan/Program/....
Installation get OK, no problem.
I also created a small databaseapplication.
Creating this databaseapplication get OK, no problem depending on Netbeans or anything else without myself :)

for now i have netbean 6.9.1 quite ready to go on mageia. i just encounter build issue, as there is pb to build netbean with icedtea.

see :  http://netbeans.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=130368
       http://icedtea.classpath.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=615

unfortunatly the patch on the second bugreport doesn't work.

Does someone know how to fix the build ?

for info :
