Bug 3703

Description Dick Gevers 2011-12-11 12:10:32 CET
Example:

Starting & finishing drakauth from console I see on stdout:
# pwconv: can't work with tcb enabled

[1]+  Done                    drakauth

I'm aware tcb is not much encouraged by Mageia (or Mandriva before), but this or similar warnings would be best shown also in the MCC GUI, or a popup warning.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

Mageia 6 does not show the exact problem, but the sort of generic Gtk errors thrown by very many applications:
 # drakauth
Too late to run INIT block at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.22.2/x86_64-linux-thread-multi/Glib/Object/Introspection.pm line 257.
Ignore the following Glib::Object::Introspection & Gtk3 warnings
Subroutine Gtk3::main redefined at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.22.3/Gtk3.pm line 525.
[GUI popped up]

Also, what is suggested is fine in an ideal world, and many GUIs do pop up error dialogues. OTOH erors O/P just on the console seldom stop the application functioning OK. For Mageia it would need implementing in all MCC and related GUI applications, with enough intelligence to filter the most severe warnings. Would this qualify ? I think not:
 # harddrake2
Ignore the following Glib::Object::Introspection & Gtk3 warnings
Subroutine Gtk3::main redefined at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.22.3/Gtk3.pm line 525.
(drakhardware:17142): IBUS-WARNING **: The owner of /home/lewis/.config/ibus/bus is not root!
[GUI works]

I am for closing it:
- it is very old, 8y, and life goes on.
- the specific original fault does not seem to apply now
- it very seldom effects the normal operation of applications.

It may be old, but that says only it is not resolved since reporting...
The very specific example was no more than that: other examples still appear on stdout not on GUI.
If warnings about rpmnew, rpmsave etcetera are useless than why do they appear on stdout ?
