Trust me, If user has to reinstall system just to replace the boot loader, nobody is going to want Mageia after they try to put it back. :-(
Unless https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3671 gets fixed.

# grub-install --recheck /dev/sda
Probing devices to guess BIOS drives. This may take a long time.
/dev/root does not have any corresponding BIOS drive.

I had also tried it from a failsafe and tried chroot.

Me neither, but there is a bug against drakx-rescue.

command also fails in the console mode of the rescue dvd.

Which bug? :)

I was unable to use the latest boot-nonfree.iso to restore the boot loader.
As far as this bug report goes, I am at odds about if it is truly fixed.

I just finished a clean ftp install from the above iso and saw some of my open bugs fixed and found a few new ones. The sad part of this tale is those fixed bugs were not fixed on my up to date alpha3 and the new bugs found were not on the up to date alpha3 install. Same thing on my VirtualBox Alpha3 guest.

In my stupid opinion, a new DVD.iso needs to be released because I am pretty damn sure there is junk left from all the updates which is causing and hiding problems.

I have done a few clean installs of Alpha3+updates and have seen problem changes which were not on the previous Alpha3+updates install.

With 3 weeks left to Beta, I think a new Alpha3 DVD.iso should released so we can get a better handle on real problems instead of working problems caused by junk leftover from updates.

Ftp installs are a bear because of updates to mirror while attempting a clean install. :(

@ Bit

Is this bug still valid for Mga2b2?

I was able to run the command and reboot.
Hooray for your side. :)

That does not mean grub really did update the mbr. :(
That would be a different problem anyway.

I'll assume grub did the mbr update and mark this bug resolved.
