Description Doug Laidlaw 2011-11-30 08:18:27 CET
I installed the Mga KDE Live CD to my hard drive. I have an ethernet connection to an ADSL modem.

On upgrading to the DVD, my ethernet connection wouldn't work. The choice of phone system was set to US. Changing that to AU gave me an icon saying that the network wasn't configured. Configuring the network put me back where I began.

A clean install from the DVD fixed the problem.

@ Doug

I understand your ethernet connection worked after installing the Mga2a1 LiveCD, but when you upgraded with the Mga2a1 DVD afterwards, you got this bug, is that correct?

It is nice that a clean install fixed the problem, but it also erased /root/drakx/report.bug.gz
That file is needed for the developer of drakx-installer to see what went wrong and to fix it.

If you can reproduce this bug (for instance with Mageia 2 beta, if we are going to have a LiveCD for that release), could you please then save
/root/drakx/report.bug.gz
and attach it here? It is also possible to insert an USB key, switch to ctr+alt+F2 during install and type "bug", that'll put report.bug on your USB stick. Of course ctr+alt+F7 will bring you back

@ Doug

Is it possible for you to reproduce this bug and give the information requested in comment 1?

If it isn't, we'd better close this bug as old for now. It can always be reopened when needed.

I am currently running Mga1 as my principal OS, with Cauldron installed by updating the Mga1 Dual. I don't have a spare partition, and the earliest Alpha I have kept is 2 as a DVD. I no longer have the Mga2a1 resources I would need.

It seems to me that this bug needs to be taken further before Beta 1. I will download the Alpha 2 LiveCd and test it under VirtualBox. Alpha 3 wouldn't create a workable system for me, but Alpha 2 only had the missing HAL packages. I shouldn't need them for this test.

Thanks, Doug.

If you manage to find a mirror or torrent that provides you with the Alpha 2 LiveCD, can you please give me a link? I can't find one :(

Or if you can't, would testing the beta 1 live cd (before release) be something for you?
Comment 6 Marja Van Waes 2012-02-12 13:16:38 CET
in combination with the dvd, of course :/
Comment 7 Doug Laidlaw 2012-02-13 01:25:07 CET
I couldn't get it to run under VirtualBox, so erased my existing Cauldron and installed from the Alpha 2 Live CD. On installing the Alpha 2 DVD over the top of that, this bug was not evident. Upon booting into the DVD, the network icon showed that I was connected as normal. The directory /root/drakx did not exist, only an empty marker file. It seems that the bug has gone away.

The present system is with no updates, and has an irritating habit of logging me out if I enter a password with the <ENTER> key and not by clicking on the button. I haven't had a chance to search for a bug report on this, but it is not the latest release, anyway.

Thanks for testing and for the feedback. So closing this report :)

The last new issue should disappear after getting the updates.

I never heard about the first new issue before, I'll check my Mga2a3 installs to see whether they contain that directory (or isn't it created when report.bug is written to a USB key, in that case I won't have it)

Thierry is already in the cc of this report

On my Mga 1, it contains other things as well, including auto_inst.cfg.pl and various logs of the installation. It contains a report.bug.gz A similar directory now exists in my Cauldron's /root/ . I must have looked too soon :)
