Bug 3514

I guess you are using h264, so yes it's need ffmpeg.
But not sure it needs a require.
Added the maintainer, as I can decide.

Totem uses packagekit. It should prompt for any missing codecs and offer to install. I don't think we want to put ffmpeg in there though. Totem should be able to play stuff without it.

But seems the backend is no working

I have installed Mageia 2 Alpha 3 from DVD, and then upgraded to Cauldron (and keep it up-to-date since then). As of clean install, Totem wasn't capable of playing any single video, until I've manually installed gstreamer0.10-{ffmpeg,faad,a52dec,dts}. No PackageKit prompt has been rendered.

If packagekit urpmi backend is not working, then that seems to be the bug to fix. Not add dependencies on totem, right?

With Mageia3 alpha2, gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg is loaded but totem is unable to read a video.  Totem read  only a theora video without any sound.

VLC and Dragon can read videos : mpg, avi, mp4, flv, dv, wmv; ogm
VLC is able to read a swf file.

May I open a new bug and close this one? Or definitively forget totem? In this case remove it as default reader...

That depends, from what Olav wrote, I understand totem should work without ffmpeg:

If you're sure the problem is not with packagekit again, then please close this bug and open a new one

However, if it is basically the same problem as before, then keep this report open and change its version to "cauldron"

Totem upstream looks active, btw. http://ftp.acc.umu.se/pub/GNOME/sources/totem/

Mageia 1 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on ''1st December''. Mageia 1 is no 
longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or 
bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. 

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia 
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia and reopen this bug.
