marja11 Try adding the kernel option radeon.modeset=0 CC:

davidwhodgins (In reply to comment #1) > Try adding the kernel option radeon.modeset=0 Yes that worked. When I use the kernel option radeon.modeset=0 the system boots, I can log in and use KDE. Now that it boots, make sure you have the Nonfree repository enabled, and install the package radeon-firmware. Use drakrpm-edit-media to enable the nonfree repository. You can start it from mcc/Software management/Configure media sources. Then try without the radeon.modeset option. If that works, then close this bug as a duplicate of bug 3466. Adding the radeon-firmware did not work. Yesterday I booted the system, added the non free repository. I found the radeon-firmware package. But a reboot of the system without the kernel option still fails. Here is the output of a query for the RPM on the system: [root@localhost ~]# rpm -qa | grep -i radeon radeon-firmware-20110601-3.mga2.nonfree x11-driver-video-radeonhd-1.3.0-6.git20100512.2.mga2 radeontool-1.6.2-1.mga1 libdrm_radeon1-2.4.27-1.mga2 Don't know if it will help, but I will attach the files from /var/log dmesg.old and Xorg.0.log.old. I think these were created while booting the first time today without the kernel option. Created attachment 1160 [details]

IBM Thinkpad T40 here, GPU: Radeon Mobility 7500 ( also listed as M7 LW ). I saw same "Failed to allocate" lines, but other numbers, and hundreds of then scrollling, while it actually succeed booting OK. System: current i586 mga2 (=beta1 i think as it was updated day before beta iso published) Tried with kernel option radeon.modeset=0 : is OK. I have the same radeon packages (except the X11.. ends in .3mga2) as in #4 but not the radeon-firmware Now removing radeon.modeset=0 and installing radeon-firmware: it boots and runs OK now too, only issue i see yet is the mageia graphic background shown during boot and have a dotted progress bar: it is OK in the beginning, then colors suddenly get very wrong until login comes up OK. I feel graphics is a bit faster with radeon-firmware. (X is set to use Radeon X1950 and earlier. (also tried radeonhd: "find no card") So the bug here is that it did not get installed? CC:
