Description Juan Magallon 2011-11-25 01:26:23 CET
Hi...

Selecting default apps from Gnome System::System Info control panel,
I noticed I had a dozen 'Firefox' entries for web browser.

It is caused by multiple 'userapp-Firefox-******.desktop' files
present in ~/.local/share/applications. For stable firefox (8.0.1),
Gnome sees its desktop file and does not create a user version for
it. But with beta (and I couldn't guess why...), it does not recognise
it as a system desktop file and creates a user version. So on each
beta update, it creates a new file and previous ones remain in
user's folder.

A clue:

werewolf:~> ll /usr/bin/firef*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 37 2011.11.25 01:15 /usr/bin/firefox -> ../../usr/lib64/firefox-8.0.1/firefox*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 42 2011.11.17 09:42 /usr/bin/firefox-beta -> ../../usr/lib64/firefox-beta-9.0b2/firefox*

werewolf:~/.local/share/applications> grep Exec /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop
Exec=firefox %u
werewolf:~/.local/share/applications> grep Exec /usr/share/applications/firefox-beta.desktop
Exec=firefox-beta %u
werewolf:~/.local/share/applications> grep Exec userapp-Firefox-FNWA5V.desktop
Exec=/usr/lib64/firefox-beta-9.0b2/firefox %u

Hi, duplicate of bug 3231 ?
Comment 2 Juan Magallon 2011-11-25 02:16:21 CET
I don't think so, nowadays both have the same entries for MimeType.
Wild guess: perhaps is the difference between the name 'firefox-beta' and
'/usr/lib...../firefox'.

Never use Firefox to mark it as default browser. It is very buggy. I filed bug 3231 for the real issue.

Trying to ping 41 bug reports in one move, because nothing has happened with them for more than 3 months, they still have the status NEW or REOPENED, there is no "OK" on the Whiteboard and severity and priority are "normal" or higher.

Is this one still valid for Mageia 2 rc?

If it is and you're the assignee, please set status to ASSIGNED if you think this bug was assigned correctly. If for work flow reasons you can't do that, then please put OK on the whiteboard instead.
If it wasn't assigned correctly, please assign back to Bug Squad and explain.

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
