This bug is being created for informational purposes, for users that may run into the issue described below.

The VirtualBox update to version 7.0.12 (Bug 32490) is a security update, patching some high-level vulnerabilities.

But, this version of VirtualBox has an upstream issue where Windows guests lower than Windows 10 can have trouble loading the published guest additions. This problem has been identified, and will be corrected in the 7.0.14 version. In the meantime, users with affected Windows guests are being advised to download guest additions 7.0.13r160164 (or newer) from https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Testbuilds and install them manually. I can confirm that guest additions 7.0.13r160458 installs and works just fine in my own Windows 7 guest.

Alternatively, affected Windows guests will function without issues using the guest additions for 7.0.10 (despite warnings the user will see that they should be updated).

Normally, we would not send out an update with issues like this. However, because of the aforementioned security patches, we feel compelled to do so despite the issues.

Assigning this to kernel anyway, because when VB 7.0.14 emerges, we will push it routinely, then the bug can be closed fixed.
