And what is that other bug of yours re not being able to install Mageia 9? The last thing is the most important, as Mageia 8 will not be supported much longer. lewyssmith The card is a 5 port usb3 card that is pci-e x4. See https://www.inateck.com/products/pcie-to-usb-3-2-gen-2-card-with-20-gbps-bandwidth-3-usb-type-a-and-2-usb-type-c-ports-ku5211-red for details. It uses a Renesas chipset. As for the issue with my H12SSL-i and mageia-9, see Bug 32370 I see: a PCI card providing USB ports. The last point is interesting: you already have a similar card without problems. Digging around the subject: Ubuntu forum: "directly from Inateck... With regard to your problem, we normally don’t recommend Linux or dual system users to use our card since there might exist compatibility issue." A review of several similar cards (but no real trial) included: "Inateck 4 Ports PCIe to USB 3.0 Expansion Card work perfectly on Linux without drivers’ need. Reverting to the original card and everything works fine." So you are not alone: this card is not sure for Linux. I contacted Inateck and asked for advice. I have never had any issues with any usb card and linux support, but there is always a first time. It is a really nice card, with two channels each supporting 10gigabit usb3, and not needing external power. The ones that worked were the 4-port straight USB-A models. This one has USB-C, which makes it 'new'. Note "the fact is not really USB 3.0 compliant". I would say 'wontfix' meaning 'cannot fix', but this sort of thing might always be cured by a new kernel. A new one is in the pipeline: kernel-6.5.11-5 Perhaps wait until this becomes public, and see whether that helps. I have some good news. On advice from Innoteck, I tried another computer. I used my supermicro H11SSL-i (not the H12SSL-i that had mageia-9 issues). Using mageia-9 with kernel 6.4.9, I have basic usb functionality, and the GUI does not hang. So the card 'works' with linux, as long as the kernel is new enough. I didn't test all ports or do a speed test, but I did mount a usb drive and verified its contents. Good news, and thank you for your research. Are we saying that it does not work with the latest Mageia 8 kernel (what version?), but does with Mageia 9 and a recent kernel (you used 6.4.9, currently it is 6.4.16). This might be a Mageia 8 Errata - for a short time! It does not work with mageia 8, kernel 5.15.126. It does work with mageia 9. Thank you for this clarification. I shall close this with an errata for Mageia 8, support for which is not much longer. It is important that it does work for M9. Resolution:
