MGA8-64 MATE on Acer Aspire 5253
No installation issues.
First removed existing .thunderbird folder from home, then started thnderbird and used its wizard to configure access to my hotmail account.
Send and receive mail without and with attachament to/from my gmail account on my desktop PC. All works OK.

FWIW, updated fine on Mageia 9
backup, update, reboot

Thunderbird just keep working OK:
Swedish locale
settings and local mail
IMAP (offline, IMAP to synk to server)
SMTP
