Right click on the application menu -> show alternatives -> switch Thank you hakerdefo for the suggestion; and sturmvogel for the DIY fix. Sending this off to the KDE people for consideration; but we are in a version freeze for Mageia 9, so a change now is unlikely. Priority:

Low This has been discussed historically and it was favored by the community to stick with Kicker rather than the clunky Kickoff. I don't see any reason to change this default. I am testing in Mga8. I tried log out/in but no change - it is still greyed so there is no obvious way back to Kicker. Ah - I figured it.
It's not:

its:
Right click on the application menu -> show alternatives -> select "application menu" -> switch to get to kicker
and:
Right click on the application menu -> show alternatives -> select "application launcher" -> switch to get to kickoff
...but I agree that the default is fine and yes it was discussed at length some years ago.
