Plasma still crashing when switching desktops.

Description Pierre Fortin 2023-03-20 18:16:11 CET
Description of problem: Fro a coule days, I've been seeing the taskbar restart when selecting a different desktop. Usually, I end up on a different desktop than the desired one; though I haven't yet recorded a pattern. This appears to have started right after these packages were updated:

lib64kwinglutils14-5.27.3-1.mga9.x86_64 Fri 17 Mar 2023 04:41:10 PM EDT
lib64kwineffects14-5.27.3-1.mga9.x86_64 Fri 17 Mar 2023 04:41:10 PM EDT
lib64kwin5-5.27.3-1.mga9.x86_64 Fri 17 Mar 2023 04:41:10 PM EDT
lib64kcmkwincommon5-5.27.3-1.mga9.x86_64 Fri 17 Mar 2023 04:41:10 PM EDT
kwin-common-5.27.3-1.mga9.x86_64 Fri 17 Mar 2023 04:41:10 PM EDT
kwin-5.27.3-1.mga9.x86_64 Fri 17 Mar 2023 04:41:10 PM EDT

Visually, the screens go dark very briefly; the taskbar visibly restarts.

This crash was slightly different; when the windows were restored, some were solid black. As soon as the mouse entered each, the window contents were restored as expected.

Thank you for the report.
Your precision about the kwin update is helpful. There was a huge number of Plasma updates at the same time, but the journal extracts certainly point to kwin.

Assigning to the KDE group.

Is there a reason why you are using an old kernel (according your journal) but newer kwin versions? Was this an incomplete update? Did you restart your machine after update of kernel?

You are using kernel-server-latest-6.2.2-2.mga9 (build 2023-03-03)
You are using kwin kwin-5.27.3-1.mga9.x86_64 (build 2023-03-16)

But cauldron is already two kernel versions ahead:
kernel-server-latest-6.2.6-1.mga9.x86_64.rpm (build 2023-03-14)
kernel-server-latest-6.2.7-1.mga9.x86_64.rpm (build 2023-03-19)

So there are some inconsistencies...

This occurs almost daily; usually several times per day. Whether with above "inconsistencies"; or everything updated and freshly rebooted.

Plasma still crashing when switching desktops.

this bug is still aggravating. When it hits, the shell restarts and I never know which desktop I'll end up on; though usually #1
many crashes in attached log created with:
 $ journalctl -b | grep -e kwin -e plasma > journal_kwin_plasma.txt
