Hello,

It's been a while since I've used kmail, I remember trying to use it on MGA8 with no succes, probably it is now fixed on MG8.

KMail complains of akonadi service not running, I already ran akonadictl start with no success.

I think this should be working by the time MGA9 is released, I know I can use thunderbird but Kmail is part of plasma desktop and very much integrated.

Is there something I can do to make it work?

Any help would be appreciated!!

Which version of KMail are you using?

A really important information is missing: Which DE do you use? Because under Plasma it works out of the box. If you run it under another DE you need some knowledge and manual work as you need to install and start additional Plasma deps which are not present in other DEs....

Kmail is a Plasma app which works under Plasma. Under other DEs you need additional steps to get it working. As far as i can remember this was always the case...

Please show the output when starting Kontact or KMail on command line
and attach the file .local/share/akonadi/db_data/mysql.err (the first 100 lines if too big).

Kontact/KMail/Akonadi is working here, too. You might also test KMail in a new test user.

I had the same problem after a fresh install of mageia 9 

A solution for me was to remove akonadi files. 

rm -rf ~/.local/share/akonadi

CC: (none) => waem
