Please provide journals and logs from a crashed session. Also provide basic informations:
- which ISO was used
- which DE was used
- computer architecture
- did you verufy the ISO befure burning/dumping
- inxi output

Based on the provided (not existing) information, this is not reproducible…

To see the hardware as well as kernel and drivers work, can you boot and use Mageia Live?

Another idea is to let a RAM tester run overnight.

Add online repositories and do a system update first. You are still using the heavily outdated kernel 5.10.16
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Install_media_in_Mageia_for_beginners

After you have updated your system, monitor if it still crashes. When it crashes add the journal here.

Sorry to have left you, Chris. Did you manage to install Mageia 8 in the end?

We shouldhave suggested sooner the following.
We would need the Classic installer log:

"For bugs related to the traditional installer, the reporter should provide the file /root/drakx/report.bug.xz as an attachment. An easy way for doing this is ask the reporter to switch to console 2 (by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2) during installation after the bug occurs, plug a USB key/stick and type
 bug
then press Enter. It will put report.bug on the key. If the file is too large to attach, then please compress it with xz:
 xz report.bug
and attach the resulting report.bug.xz.

If the bug command fails, try again with e.g (if your USB-key is on /dev/sdb): bug /dev/sdb1. Adjust the command if needed. You can find, by first running dmesg whether your USB key is on e.g. "/dev/sdb", "/dev/sdc" or "/dev/sdd", etc."

Lewis

Did you manage to install Mageia 8 in the end?

Thanks, yes, I chrooted in and installed grub and got it working. I should have closed this sooner, regrets.

I am also using Mageia 9 alpha currently and like it.

I was able to contribute by letting the Mageia folks know they needed to upgrade Timeshift in the repositories and they have done so.

I look forward to the official release of Mageia 9 and I will keep the info you provided in case I need it.

Thank you
