Can't repeat the issue. At first start (if this app was never opened before), the config file gets created and the app starts in the systray with full functional menu. Below the (absolut normal and correct) output of first start of the app after installation. MGA8 64bit Plasma (also on an onlöy Intel laptop) [rotz@rotz .config]$ radiotray-ng [2023-01-27 14:45:58.317900] [0x00007f78300bd9c0] [error] (config.cpp:45) - Failed to load: /home/rotz/.config/radiotray-ng/radiotray-ng.json : No such file or directory [2023-01-27 14:45:58.330818] [0x00007f78300bd9c0] [debug] (config.cpp:55) - saving: /home/rotz/.config/radiotray-ng/radiotray-ng.json

UNCONFIRMED Sorry to have left you.
Herman, is this still an issue?
If so, please post the output of:
$ inxi -MCSG
for all the machines: one worked, two not.
> 1. On the first start on a blank system, radiotray-ng aborts.
Can you post the terminal output for this. Is it the same for the two failures?CC:

And this one plays OK.
Thank you for all this extra info. Is mach7.hviaene.thuis / Acer Aspire 5253 shown twice: in the second half of comment 3, and comment 4 ? "On the same Acer laptop as above" implies yes. So it is curious that $ radiotray-ng behaves quite differently on this one box as shown at the end of c3 (crash), and in c4 (works: "And this one plays OK"). What was the difference? Have you ever tried UNinstalling the application, removing any orphans, and re-installing it? I will try to try this on Mageia 8. Acer laptop: have a close look at the results of the inxi command: teh failing one is an M8, the working one an M9. Yoour question on the installation of radiotray: on all instances it concerns a fresh install of radiotray. In fact, I have been using radiotray on another machine with PC-LinuxOS for some time, and it came only recently to me to try it on Mageia. (In reply to Herman Viaene from comment #6) > Acer laptop: have a close look at the results of the inxi command: teh > failing one is an M8, the working one an M9. Subtle! But it answers the point. I am on M8, just updated; installed the application, which when launched puts an icon in Systray (Xfce). Machine is: $ inxi -MCS System: Host: localhost Kernel: 5.15.106-desktop-2.mga8 x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: Xfce 4.16.0 Distro: Mageia 8 mga8 Machine: Type: Desktop System: XDO.AI product: Pantera Pico PC v: N/A serial: <superuser required> Mobo: XDO Trade model: XDO Trade Co., LTD serial: <superuser required> UEFI: American Megatrends v: XDO-007 0.03 date: 01/05/2022 CPU: Info: Quad Core model: Intel Celeron J4125 bits: 64 type: MCP L2 cache: 4 MiB Speed: 998 MHz min/max: 800/2700 MHz Core speeds (MHz): 1: 998 2: 998 3: 992 4: 998 Terminal output from first launch is: $ radiotray-ng [2023-06-01 20:01:18.301901] [0x00007fa2b9ac09c0] [error] (config.cpp:45) - Failed to load: /home/lewis/.config/radiotray-ng/radiotray-ng.json : No such file or directory [2023-06-01 20:01:18.304427] [0x00007fa2b9ac09c0] [debug] (config.cpp:55) - saving: /home/lewis/.config/radiotray-ng/radiotray-ng.json (radiotray-ng:69349): Gtk-WARNING **: 20:01:18.391: Theme parsing error: gtk.css:3:33: Failed to import: Error opening file /home/lewis/.config/gtk-3.0/window_decorations.css: No such file or directory (radiotray-ng:69349): Gdk-CRITICAL **: 20:01:18.672: gdk_window_thaw_toplevel_updates: assertion 'window->update_and_descendants_freeze_count > 0' failed but it remains running, and Quit adds nothing more. Subsequent launches only output the last two Gtk/Gdk messages. Clicking that icon (right or left clicks same) just pops a menu: the 1st three items, Turn on/Stopped/Volume are greyed, the rest visible black - almost the opposite of one of your failures. The menu is mostly radio stations, ends in Preferences/Sleep timer/About/Quit. All active menu entries seem to work. Is this what it should look like? Once more we need to find out how our systems differ from those which do not work. Probably hardware is irrelevant. The list of 'requires' is too long to post; and to find the versions of them all (to compare) would not be easy, and probably fruitless if all systems are up-to-date.. CC'ing Jani who maintains this pkg, hoping he [wally] might have a suggestion. CC:
