photo of 2 mouse pointers

I cannot screen capture the issue
Comment 4 Lewis Smith 2023-01-09 19:24:05 CET
Thanks for the report, and the photo - which makes the point clearly.
"a random spurious mouse pointer"
Can you say a bit more when this happens. The second pointer appears randomly? How long does it persist? Is there any action which makes it disappear, like switching windows or desktops?

Noting provisionally for errata in case this problem persists with you.
Assigning to Gnome people.

using occurs when switching between full screen windows, but sadly not every time.
> The second pointer appears randomly? How long does it persist?
it is stationary. it flickers when the real mouse pointer is moved. it will stay until you attempt to remove it.
> Is there any action which makes it
> disappear, like switching windows or desktops?
it remains until the real mouse pointer approaches the area around the spurious one. if the real one is used as one would use an *eraser*, you can *rub out* the unreal one by moving the real one over the unreal one..
>
open and close some applications and it will re-appear.
It seems to only appear where the real mouse pointer has been before, e.g: it would appear near the battery icon when powering off, and the next screen is displayed, showing the *off* countdown timer.

sorry for the delay.

Can you in internet find someone else having this problem, maybe upstream bug report?

nothing concrete, nothing exactly the same:

the following google searches:
gnome 2nd mouse pointer
gnome 2nd spurious mouse pointer
wayland gnome spurious mouse pointer

found a few github / ubuntu / fedora posts, from 2008 - 2020.
less than a page of hits each :(

only common factor: AMD / Radeon graphics, when it is listed.

seems to be a pretty rare event.
Comment 10 Morgan Leijström 2023-07-07 12:59:01 CEST
Yes so many other odd problems...

The effect you see seem not common, and no other report it (yet) on Mageia, so not for errata IMO.

If we see more Mageia users having this, then for errata.
