Description Karl Johan Simonsen 2022-12-28 16:36:05 CET
Description of problem:
Using Plasma - Konsole - I wanted to create my own default profile (black on light yellow)
Konsole - Settings - create new profile : this takes direct effect.
I can then do
Konsole - Settings - manage profiles : and set the new profile as default.
When I then close Konsole and open again then the new profile is gone.
It is gone whether or not it is set to default.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Mageia 9 alpha 1

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. in Plasma open Konsole
2.create a new profile (and set as default)
3. close konsole and open again

Only workaround is to create a new profile everytime Konsole is opened.

Mageia 9 alpha 1 is installed on a ASUSvivoBook , but that is probably irrelevant.

Unfortunately this is an upstream bug. All distributions are hit by this reoccuring Plasma bug. Many users reported this for different distries: Kubuntu, Arch, Fedora, openSUSE, EndeavourOS, ...

Only a small sample collection:
https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/wmksd3/konsole_losing_profiles/
https://forum.endeavouros.com/t/create-new-profile-in-konsole/32594/8

This bug was reported several times against Plasma and got fixed. But it reoccures many times again:

An intermediate solution is described here:
https://forum.endeavouros.com/t/create-new-profile-in-konsole/32594

Navigate to .local/share/konsole (hidden folder)
Create profil_name.profile
Open the new file and paste following into it:

[General]
Name=profile_name
Environment=TERM=konsole-direct,COLORTERM=truecolor

Now the profile should stay. Exchange profile_name with a name you prefer.

This not a minor issue.

Comment 4 Lewis Smith 2023-01-08 19:27:15 CET
Clearly not (nobody said it was), but an old & recurring one (thanks to sturmvogel's researches). I just confirmed that the fault happens on an up-to-date Cauldron system.
If the issue really annoys, the solution offered in comment 2 is simple enough.

Alternatively, install & use another terminal. Qterminal looks ideal, otherwise Mate-terminal or LX-terminal.

Adding for Errata.

Assigning to KDE.

Comment 5 Barry Jackson 2023-01-09 11:00:52 CET
It looks to me as though the main issue is that the menu option "Edit current profile" has been removed in recent versions. This allowed the default to be edited. Now, in order to make any tiny change a new profile must be created, as the default is read only.

For most people editing the default to work as preferred is perfectly adequate.

Why someone broke this when it was working perfectly well for years eludes me.
Comment 6 sturmvogel 2023-01-09 14:27:35 CET
If you don‘t like the new look of Plasma 5.25/5.26 there is nothing what Mageia can do about it. There was a major overhaul to clean up the menu structure of all Plasma tools and applications. If you have valid reasons to revert some of these changes, the only way is to file an upstream KDE Plasma bug.
But the chances are small that it gets reverted as there were several valid reasons for the changes…
Comment 7 Morgan Leijström 2023-06-17 21:14:18 CEST
So this is minor, well known including workaround, and upstream.

-> I am inclined to remove FOR_ERRATA, and set it WONTFIX

No objection, so...
