A friend of mine and I have the same problem of both our laptops.

Soundcards can be set up and are shown, but are grayed out in KDE.

Maybe this is because of normal Audio + HDMI Audio?

solved
the problem was caused by the /etc/pam.d/system-auth file

solution
mv /etc/pam.d/system-auth.rpmnew /etc/pam.d/system-auth
edit
/etc/sysconfig/speedboot
change
SPEEDBOOT=auto
with
SPEEDBOOT=no

So is this a real fix?
For me a fix means: no user interaction, just download updates and it works again - that's not the case for me over here.

if the latest updates have not solved the problem you should talk about mageia-dev irc (colin) This fix applies if you installed Cauldron
