This is clearly a KDE Upstream bug. Nothing which Mageia can fix. The high amount of KDE bugs regarding this topic is a sign for it. You should file this bug under plasmashell general or plasmashell desktop containment (even if you don't find the exact version). Status:

UPSTREAM In Principe I agree. But for years the was a similar cas and the answer of KDE was : "thirst upgrade, after we can speak about". In practice how to do ? The possible references for Plasma shell are : 15.18.7,8 5.23.0,1,2,3,4,5,96 5.24.0,1,2,3,4 git-stable-plasma/5.24 master None 5.20.4 . Seems to be special to Mageia ! . Perhaps that is why the bug exist for all kind of OS only not for Mageia. In the KDE bug report on which version do I make a notch ? If you have to raise a bug for a specific Plasma version, there is nothing wrong with doing it for our Mageia 8 version 5.20.4. We have now in Cauldron, for the future, 5.24.4; but it seems from your research in the previous comment: > The possible references for Plasma shell are : 5.24.0,1,2,3,4 that the bug is still there! As per comment 1, it looks from "there are many equal for Debian, Manjaro etc" that this bug is widespread. Having only a few desktop icons, this is not something I have noticed. CC:

(In reply to Norbert Kieffer from comment #4) > As expected it is because "mageia uses old versions" Mageia versions are generally current stable releases at the time of our distribution version freeze. Other than for security updates and serious bug fixes, package versions do not change during the lifetime of a Mageia release. > > Here the link with the KDE bugzilla and the answer from KDE > The link is to this Mageia bug not KDE. zen25000 (In reply to Lewis Smith from comment #3) > > The possible references for Plasma shell are > > 15.18.7,8 > > 5.23.0,1,2,3,4,5,96 > > 5.24.0,1,2,3,4 > > git-stable-plasma/5.24 > it seems from your research > that the bug is still there! I got this wrong; apologies for the misunderstanding. I see now that you were saying you can only cite upstream the Plasma releases you listed, which does not include ours; so you cannot file a bug against it: 5.20.4. It is normal to say to complainants "Use the latest version", so no moan on the KDE front for that. In this case it is not so simple - tinkering with Plasma. 5.24.4 will not be available until Mageia 9, although a Mageia 8 Backport of 'plasma-workspace' might be possible if it is possible and deemed important enough. Do we know that it will fix the problem? Is it the right package to update? Assigning this to the KDE team. Status:

NEW Not sure if this will help to narrow down the problem but I experienced the same symptoms in cauldron when several plasma packages were inadvertently pushed to core rather than updates_testing recently. I use a common home folder for Mageia8 and Cauldron on my system. When the above packages were installed, sddm stopped working for my regular user in both Mga8 and Cauldron with the same symptoms as in this bug. By using LXDM in Mga8 I was able to log in and use it normally with plasma. When the new packages were finally released for Cauldron plasma and it was fully updated, sddm worked fine and also reverting to sddm in Mga8 also worked as before the problem. So it seems that something broke in the user home settings which caused the sddm issue. You could confirm this by creating a new user and testing sddm to log in as that user. Ignore above - posted to wrong bug /o\ Till Mageia 9 installation done I had twice the icons scrambled after reboot. After kernel upgrade : not yet tested I confirm that each time the file /user/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc has changed. Why ?? Note 1 - Mageia 9 installation is a real new installation not a upgrade Note 2 - the bug have been observed only on one computer , not yet on others Note 3 -how to reproduce ? : The hazard Système d'exploitation : Mageia 9 Version de KDE Plasma : 5.27.5 Version de KDE Frameworks : 5.105.0 Version de Qt : 5.15.7 Version de noyau : 6.4.9-desktop-4.mga9 (64-bit) Plate-forme graphique : X11 Processeurs : 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-5300U CPU @ 2.30GHz Mémoire : 15,5 Gio de mémoire vive Processeur graphique : Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 5500 Fabricant : Dell Inc. Nom du produit : Latitude E7450 result of a test : if icons position choice on the desktop is "icon position locked" however the icons are scrambled after reboot Other facts : 1)at each boot with another screen (other definition) the icons are scrambled 2)at each boot with a double screen installation icons are scrambled 3) at each "normal" boot , during the end of boot when the descktop screen appears icons are scrambled shortly (~1/3 second) before put on the right places 4) this happens now on two different computers

Created attachment 13216 [details] changes in the file On two different laptop with the same configuration desktop icons positions are scrambled after average 10 boot and after each boot done after kernel upgrade. The file "plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc" is modified always in the same manner. Herewith details of the 3 modifications. This analyze has been obtained in this way : after a change, icon are replaced strictly at the initial position and then "plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc"checked if it is equal to the initial one. laptop configuration : Operating System: Mageia 8 KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.76.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 Kernel Version: 5.16.10-desktop-2.mga8 OS Type: 64-bit Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-6440HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz Memory: 15.5 Gio of RAM Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 530 Notice : impossible to declare this bug to KDE those there are many equal for Debian, Manjaro etc (360212, 354802,359919, etc) because Plasmashell 5.20.4 DOES NOT EXIST. In the KDE bug list Mageia never mentioned .
