When installing xmlto, it says texlive-texmf is required as a dependency. But once it's installed, you can uninstall texlive-texmf with no complains that xmlto requires it. This breaks xmlto and makes it unable to convert XML files into PDF documents. Happens on both Mageia 1 and Cauldron.

Which urpmi messages? I use rpmdrake to install/uninstall packages.

just to confirm i have understood all, 

texlive-texmf should be required by xmlto because w/o it xmlto doesn't work OK ?

i586:

As an added require texlive-texmf will require linking from core/release to core/updates when this is pushed.

# xmlto --skip-validation txt base.xml

Lots of warnings but creates base.txt

# urpme texlive-texmf
To satisfy dependencies, the following 3 packages will be removed (599MB):
  task-c-devel-2009.0-4.mga1.noarch
   (due to missing texinfo)
  texinfo-4.13a-2.1.mga1.i586
   (due to missing texmf-data)
  texlive-texmf-20100722-14.mga1.noarch
Remove 3 packages? (y/N) n

After

# xmlto --skip-validation txt base.xml

Lots of warnings but creates base.txt again.

# urpme texlive-texmf
To satisfy dependencies, the following 4 packages will be removed (599MB):
