Description Cristian Pîrîu 2021-04-27 14:32:45 CEST
Kmail does not render messages correctly, nor is Falkon rendering pages while browsing. Displays only images (some of them), but not text. I think the problem is with the qtwebengine5 package.
Comment 1 Lewis Smith 2021-04-27 20:29:46 CEST
Thank you for the report. I notice it is for Cauldron, which is always a risky business. Have these rather basic problems happened since you installed the packages, or after recent updates?
For Mageia 8:
 kmail-20.12.0-1.mga8
 falkon-3.1.0-6.mga8
 qtwebengine5-5.15.2-2.mga8
Can you say exactly what versions you have of Kmail & Falkon; also, when they were updated:
 $ rpm -q --last kmail falkon qtwebengine5

Kmail is widely used, so such a basic complaint will not go unnoticed! As for Falkon, I use it daily - but not the Cauldron version.

Could it be language related? You look to be in Romania, which we see rarely.

Comment 2 Cristian Pîrîu 2021-04-28 08:13:42 CEST
The problem appeared after latest updates, until now it worked allright (with small quirks), right now package versions are: kmail-21.04.0-1.mga9.x86_64 , qtwebengine5-5.15.2-3.mga9.x86_64 , falkon-3.1.0-6.mga8.x86_64. I'll try to downgrade qtwebengine5 package, to see if it helps.

Sorry, Cauldron Cauldron Cauldron = Unstable.

This sort of report can't land Bugzilla and Bugsquad anymore at first attention.
If you really need to work under Cauldron to test/adapt your software, you need:

- Subscribe to Mageia Dev Mailing List here:
https://ml.mageia.org/l/info/dev

- Report here at first intention potential broken packages in a mail.

When writing a mail to dev ML, the packager will look your mail and try to answer more quicker than writing a bug report.

You report this while we were working on pushing KDE Gears 21.04 applications from cauldron/core/updates_testing repos to cauldron/core/release.

So, perhaps a RPM was not properly updated.
We, at bugsquad, can't really look to all Cauldron bugs when Cauldron is not in a testing mode. It is early in development stage. Bugzilla should at least have reports for stable-only release.

CC'd this to Dev ML, KDE ML.

Assigning this to KDE Maintainers as Cauldron-only.

No, don't do this until a Mageia's dev/packager wants you to do this.
In meantime, make sure all Cauldron packages have been updated by issuing in a terminal as root:

urpmi --auto-update --force

I'm seeing this as well. Here's a screenshot of viewing a single email in a new window (The same display is in the main window)

As we know that font does not seem to be properly rendered,

@reporter and @Thomas from bug 28871, can you try to go there:

Make sure to select:
systemsettings5 => Appearance => Global Theme
"Breeze" (by double-click on it)

Next, in systemsettings5 => Appearance => Plasma Style to be set to "Breeze Light"

Next, in systemsettings5 => Appearance => Colors to be set to "Breeze Light"

Try again.
Comment 10 Aurelien Oudelet 2021-05-03 15:42:40 CEST
I wonder if there is something wrong in default theme to be selected.
Comment 11 Thomas Bigot 2021-05-03 15:52:30 CEST
I’ve just tried to set all settings to Breeze light (as you suggested), and this made no difference: still no font rendering.

Sorry for the duplicate, and thanks for your help.
Comment 12 Aurelien Oudelet 2021-05-03 16:07:05 CEST
Please forget Comment 9 and 10. I confirm bug is still here as I tested a Cauldron VM.

Note also even with qtwebengine5-5.15.2-4.mga9.src.rpm

Comment 13 Cristian Pîrîu 2021-05-11 14:47:34 CEST
Small update, if I reply to a received message I can see most of the message text in the "reply" new window.
Comment 14 Curtis Hildebrand 2021-05-26 09:57:46 CEST
This is a workaround, but I was able to get the text rendered correctly in Falkon by launching it with:

falkon --no-sandbox

I've seen the problem in these apps: Kmail, Konqueror, Amarok and Falkon.

I noticed that in Falkon (run normally) some pages render correctly (eg. youtube.com, duckduckgo.com) while most do not render the text (eg. mageia.org).
Comment 15 Cristian Pîrîu 2021-05-31 10:39:43 CEST
Another workaround, I can launch Kmail with: env QTWEBENGINE_DISABLE_SANDBOX=1 kmail , now everything works as expected!

Comment 16 Curtis Hildebrand 2021-08-15 20:08:19 CEST
With the latest updates to Cauldron, this problem is solved for me. I no longer require any of the above workarounds for Kmail, Falcon or Amarok.
