Description peter lawford 2021-03-05 13:24:11 CET
Description of problem:I did the recent upgrade from kernel-5.10.14 to kernel-5.10.19, but after this upgrade I couldn't reboot using key combination Ctrl+Alt+Suppr or its equivalent by using the mouse.
I had to reboot by running the command:
[alain4@mga6-64 ~]# systemctl isolate reboot.target

after rebooting on kernel-5.10.19, the key combination Ctrl+Alt+Suppr works again

Hi, thanks reporting this.

As far as I understand,
You applied latest updates for your Mageia 7 system, it pulls Kernel-5.10.19.
But, you were unable to reboot properly with GUI command and Ctrl+Alt+Suppr was not possible.

But, going to a TTY, you can do as root # systemctl isolate reboot.target.

Can you confirm this?

I think you have Plasma as Desktop environnement, don't you ?
A issue affect earlier version of Plasma desktop that prevent a reboot from GUI if graphic drivers have been updated. This issue has been fixed upstream and landed in Mageia 8.

Ok. Normally, this should be the case with Mageia 8.

We are closing this as this is know bug upstream in Plasma that we can't fix in Mageia 7 due the fact of major changes between Plasma 5.15 and Plasma 5.20.

If i remember the discussion this may also hit when updating parts of KF/Plasma.

I have always been successful in issuing "reboot" as normal user from i.e Konsole. Are there cases this may not work?

I try to write it in an as easy way as possible.

Also, was this really fixed for mga8?

Yeah, this is fixed in Mageia 8.
Under Plasma, it is now possible to do Mageia => Shutdown/Reboot
KSMServer (the greeter that proposes shutdown options) will spawn gently now, using a XRender backend on X11.

Great then, thanks for info.

Hm, we really should have put this into mga7 errata a year ago...

yes, issueing "reboot" as normal user does work, but I prefer to use "academic" commands
