Hi;

If I try to connect to a remote libvirt server using virt-manager, I get the following error:

authentication unavailable: no polkit agent available to authenticate action 'org.libvirt.unix.manage'
End of file while reading data: Input/output error

Trying to figure out, what is wrong, I noticed that we do not have libvirt group in Mageia.

If I modify /usr/share/polkit-1/rules.d/50-libvirt.rules replacing libvirt with kvm, and add the user to the kvm group, the problem is solved.

If this is wrong, please correct me.

Thank you for the report, and your diagnosis.
It does look like a packaging issue; and I suspect applies to Mageia 8 too.

The file /usr/share/polkit-1/rules.d/50-libvirt.rules is provided by package libvirt-utils in SRPM libvirt.

This has no regular maintainer, so assigning the bug to all packagers.

I would love to be a packager, but I really tried my best to understand how it works. I could not find the right documentation or a learning path, even though I am still trying on my own.

That said, I would love to be able to maintain this package and many others for Mageia, but I am aware of my limits.

Hopefully someone can modify the /usr/share/polkit-1/rules.d/50-libvirt.rules for M8 before it is officially out.

On the other hand, I would suggest a Workarounds Wiki page for problems like this in Mageia. I might start one soon.

Mageia 7 is EOL since July 1st 2021.
There will not have any further bugfix for this release.

You are encouraged to upgrade to Mageia 8 as soon as possible.

@reporter, if this bug still apply with Mageia 8, please let us know it.

@packager, if you work on the Mageia 7 version of your package, please check the Mageia 8 package if issue is also present. In this case, please fix the Mageia 8 version instead.

This bug report will be closed OLD if there is no further notice within 1st September 2021.

Hi bug reporter and hi assignee and others involved,

Please reopen this bug report if it is still valid for Mageia 8 or 9(cauldron), and change "Version:" in the upper left of this report accordingly.

This report is being closed as OLD because it was filed against Mageia 7, for which  support ended on June 30th 2021.

Unfortunately it is still valid for M8. Haven't tested it on M9 yet
