in fact, it's much more than only the stars: all the toolbar icons do not appear. they only appear briefly when hovering over...
could it be related to libpng 1.5 migration?

note: tellico has been rebuilt with new lib, so it's not as easy as a rebuild...

Would you mind removing libpng12_0 at first? removed libpng12_0, but no effect - icons still not showing. issue does not happen with a fresh user. but i don't really understand why, since it's not configuration based?! (adding mikala since it may be kde related) CC:

balcaen.john just an (probably wrong) idea, did you try to get ride of your user kde cache ? it worked. removing my kde cache made it. Status:
