thierry.vignaud Are you installing under VirtualBox? If so, this may be duplicate of bug 44. CC:

NEEDINFO Hello, I have exactly the same problem since 19 or 20. I do a network installation with boot.iso CD of December 19. The message is : mkinitrd failed (mkinitrd -v -f /boot/initrd-3.1.6-desktop-0.rc1.1.mga2.img 3.1.6-desktop-0.rc1.1.mga2) CC:

paiiou That's a different problem. I posted about it in mageia-dev. It involves something called run_program deciding that mkinitrd is taking too long, so it kills what it thinks is a "runaway process". You can see the details by switching to VC3 (CTRL-ALT-F3). If you click OK, it will retry mkinird, and fail again in the same way. CC:

ftg The server-dev mageia is currently out of service I wonder if I should not make another report. (In reply to comment #3) > Hello, > I have exactly the same problem since 19 or 20. > I do a network installation with boot.iso CD of December 19. If you are installing under VirtualBox, then it is bug 44. To workaround the problem, boot to run level 3. The start VirtualBox with "startx VirtualBox", so you don't have kde or another desktop slowing things down. When you start the installer, modify the kernel parameters and add "divider=10". Once the install is done, install the kernel-server-latest, so you won't need to use the divider=10 afterword. Then you should be able to run VirtualBox under kde, as normal. Within the guest, you may want to edit /usr/lib/libDrakX/run_program.pm and increase the timeout on line 87 from 10 minutes to 30. On my system, using the above method, the mkinitrd takes about 8 minutes while it can take over 20, if I have kde and other stuff running. This was not an virualbox installation and the problem occurs during the installation phase. Since this morning the installation is again possible (probably due to DrakX-installer-stage2-13.74-1.mga2) For me, the issue is resolved.

(none) @ Georges Thx :) No reply from Mohamad, though, and this bug was filed against Mageia 1, so doubting between closing as OLD or as WORKSFORME There are insufficient details provided in this report for us to investigate the issue further, and we have not received feedback to the information we have requested above, so we assume the problem was no longer reproducible, or has been fixed in one of the updates we have released for the reporter's distribution. If this issue turns out to still be reproducible in the latest version of Mageia, please reopen this bug with additional information. Closing as OLD. Status:
