Description Christian Lohmaier 2020-12-16 13:37:22 CET
Description of problem:
wireless peripherals have long battery life these days, often enough a single battery lasts a whole year. To achieve that, they often go to sleep and wake up/reconnect when they aren't used for some time.
Nevertheless gnome shows a non-auto-dismissed battery low warning whenever the device wakes up/reconnects months ahead before it actually causes problems (and if you wouldn't notice yourself that your mouse won't track anymore or that your keyboard is missing inputs...)
Gnome devs refused to acknowledge this problem for more than two years, but they finally gave in and one of the main gnome devs created a pull request with a fix https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings-daemon/-/merge_requests/210 to limit the warning to once per session/warning level. Which already would be a very welcome change.

How reproducible:
get a wireless mouse with longish battery life, let it reach 10% remaining charge. A charge that still is good for a couple months. Gnome will nag you whenever you touch the mouse after typing a mail or leave it alone long enough for it to enter power-saving mode, in other words multiple times per hour.
The notification is not auto-dismissed, do you have to click it away every time, adding to the annoyance.

So please apply the fix to mageia 7 / make sure cauldron/mageia8 will also get the fix in case it won't be added to upstream for release.

Thank you for reporting this - and for coercing Gnome to do something about it.

Assigning this to the Gnome maintainers. Note to them that this bug was raised for Mageia 7, but as the reporter says, the correction should be carried forward to M8.
