Description Lloyd Osten 2020-11-25 12:31:21 CET
Description of problem:

I am currently using Mageia 7.1 (and patiently waiting for Mageia 8!)

I'm having a bit of a problem with the menu in Firefox 78.0.5esr (the three horizontal bars at the right of the toolbar) I have seen this in older versions of Firefox, too.

While clicking on the three horizontal bars, a menu is supposed to open. The problem is that it opens sometimes...sometimes it does nothing at all.

Sorry, I gave an incorrect version number for Firefox. The correct version number for Firefox is 78.5.0ESR

Summary: Firefox menu not working properly (intermittently) => Firefox menu not working properly (intermittently) Correct version number is 78.5.0esr

I assume you're talking about the menu button at the right of the address bar?

I don't see that problem with the same version of Firefox from the firefox-78.5.0-1.mga7.x86_64 package, using an up-to-date KDE Plasma desktop environment.

I suppose you did not get Firefox from the Mozilla website, but installed it using a Mageia rpm, which you update whenever an update is available, right?

Can you go to a terminal/konsole and type:

   rpm -qa --last firefox

what does that command return?

Which desktop environment do you use?

Do you still have this problem when you create a new user and log in as that user?

Yes, it is the "menu" button with the three horizontal bars. Yes, I used the latest version from the Mageia repository.

rpm -qa -last firefox returned: firefox-78.5.0-1.mga7.x86_64

I use KDE. I tried creating a new user using the Profile Manager. It did not make any difference. The "menu" button still didn't work.

I'm not sure how to find my version number of KDE. I clicked on System Settings and it came up as v5.15.4

I have solved the problem! Apparently, Firefox doesn't always play nicely with KDE. After checking out a Mozilla support forum, I found others had the same problem. Apparently, Firefox doesn't use KDE settings. Enabling the compositor and changing the seeting to OpenGL 3.1 fixed it for me.

Good digging :)

What was it set to before?

I just tried it again and it didn't work. The screen started flickering. I set the compositor (it needs to be running) and changed the setting to Xrender. So far it is working. It was originally set to OpenGL 2.0.

Hi bug reporter and hi assignee and others involved,

Please reopen this bug report if it is still valid for Mageia 8 or 9(cauldron), and change "Version:" in the upper left of this report accordingly.

This report is being closed as OLD because it was filed against Mageia 7, for which support ended on June 30th 2021.

Thanks,
Marja
