First thing to note: this is about a 3rd-party application, which we obviously do not support. Which is not to say we will not try to help. Mageia 8 offers 2 Java versions: java-1.8.0-openjdk java-11-openjdk You do not say which one you had; it is always advisable in bug reports to give the exact version of the package(s) involved, easily found: $ rpm -q <pkgname> Whichever Java version you have, uninstall it and try the other. lewyssmith You say Mageia 8 beta. Did you update it after install, or is it only installed from the beta iso? CC:

fri This is very strange. I can't check the affected machine at this time as it has been downgraded to 7. I created a VM with beta 8 on it. Minecraft worked with Mageia 8 as installed straight off the iso. I upgraded java to Java-1.8.0.272.b02 from Java-1.8.0.262 that was on the iso and it still worked... The bare metal machine had been fully updated when when the install was done. > Minecraft worked with Mageia 8 as installed straight off the iso.

Good; The latest package (which it seems you now have) is:
java-1.8.0-openjdk-1.8.0.272.b02-0.0.ea.4.mga8
and it seems that your Minecraft works. If this holds, please close the bug 'worksforme' since nothing has been fixed!

ouaurelien At this point, I am unable to test further as the affected machine is in production. Another possibility is video card drivers. The computer is a new build, but the video card is very old, identified as: G84 [GeForce 8600 GT]. Maybe something to keep in the back of the mind, but not worth keeping this bug report open. (In reply to David Savolainen from comment #5) > not worth keeping this bug report open. Thank you; hint taken. Status:
