Description Tony Blackwell 2020-07-14 13:37:53 CEST
Description of problem:
Attempting to install a 64 exe file with wine64 fails, with the message "not supported in this installation"

Dave Hodsgins has just replied in qa discussion of this:

"Appears to be a missing requires for wine-gecko/wine64-gecko.
After installing those two 50MB packages on my system, both work."

Thanks for the report and the solution.

Assigning this globally as Wine is maintained by various people.

I believe this was satisfactorily resolved on qa-discuss. Tony's original problem was that he was actually trying to run a 32-bit .exe file - he was misled because he was trying to install a 64-bit application, but the installer was 32-bit.

The wine64 and wine32 packages recommend the wine64-gecko and wine-gecko packages, so the latter will be installed unless the user chooses to exclude them. Dave likely didn't have them because he was testing on an old, many times upgraded, system.

Tony, feel free to reopen if you think there is still an issue.
