Description Len Lawrence 2020-06-23 17:00:12 CEST
Description of problem:
After running Xfce for a while after installing it from the latest Mageia8-alpha1 Xfce Live iso mageiawelcome could not be launched.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
mageiawelcome-2.01-3.mga8

How reproducible:
It happens with system/tools menu or cli. Not yet known if it is a problem on other desktops or as a result of other modes of installation.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Mageia8 on a clean partition from the Mageia-8-alpha1-Live-x86_64-x86_64.iso
2. Boot to a live session
3. Try mageiawelcome from system tools menu or from the commandline
4. This is what you might see at the cli:
(python3:48088): dbind-WARNING **: 15:18:24.022: Couldn't register with accessibility bus: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

With respect to the messages quoted earlier, the section regarding mageiawelcome.py:202 also appears in a Live Plasma session newly booted but there mageiawelcome does launch successfully so it is the dbind warning that may provide a clue.

Hello Len, does this failure to start Mageia Welcome happen with just the Xfce Live ISO? (You say it works from the Plasma Live).
And not when running Live, but only after installation?
Have you yet tried it under Xfce from the Classic ISO? (I will if I have time).

Looks like a duplicate of bug 26845. Check dmesg for the segfault error message.
For me it never successfully launched on any DE.

Comment 4 Len Lawrence 2020-06-24 00:40:32 CEST
With reference to comment 2. I have tried it only with the Xfce desktop installed from the Live iso. Disregard what I said in the Plasma Live test - going to repeat that for reasons I do not care to state :-(
Comment 5 Len Lawrence 2020-06-24 00:58:19 CEST
My apologies Martin and Lewis. Have just tried to launch mageiawelcome from a Plasma Live session, from konsole and menus and it fails just as in Xfce. In the earlier test I had plugged in the earlier version of alpha1 Plasma Live. Must remember to double-check the date before booting.

Too true. I see why I overlooked this: it went straight to papoteur, so I did not see it. I rely on "I have seen this before" for recent bugs.

Strange. I have the M8 Classic alpha 1 installed all desktops, defaults to Gnome; I am sure I not only saw MageiaWelcome, but went through many of the sequenced first-time buttons. To cross-check.

Have you installed all updates? This bug only appeared recently, so only affects the round 2 ISOs.
Comment 9 Lewis Smith 2020-06-25 08:58:13 CEST
The nail on the head, Martin. I tried my 1st round M8 system, and could no longer raise MageiaWelcome; so concluded it came from subsequent updates. Then I discovered the round2 ISOs...
