Description of problem:
Clicking the "make default" button asks for authorization and fails to complete successfully. A popup dialog is displayed with the following message "Could not set the default configuration for monitors"

How reproducible:
Each time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open monitor preferences
2. Attempt to set default
3. Fails with an error "Could not set the default configuration for monitors"

FIX:

A workaround is to manually add the two missing directories.
$ sudo mkdir /etc/gnome-settings-daemon
$ sudo mkdir /etc/gnome-settings-daemon/xrandr

Instead of adding those dirs to gnome-control-center I added them to gnome-settings-daemon [1] and pushed it to core/updates_testing. Please test.

How can I update the this new version? I added the core updates testing repo but it doesn't appear in updates and I can't find a new version by searching for it in add/remove packges

It might take some time until the mirror you're using gets the updated package. The sync interval varies from 20 min to 1 day (it should be max 2 hours).

Testing complete on i586 for the srpm 
gnome-settings-daemon-2.32.1-2.0.mga1.src.rpm

I confirmed the bug existed using the Core Release version,
with the menu entry Sytstem/Preferences/Monitors.

Updated to the core updates testing version, and was
able to set the default, and have the settings saved.

Still need an x86-64 tester for this one.

For testing, startx GNOME, then select Sytstem/Preferences/Montiors from the
menu, then select set default.

With the Core Release version of gnome-settings-daemon, it fails.
With the Core Updates Testing version, it works here.
