It is not really a duplicate :

I understand why Iceape has disappeared from Cauldron

Nevertheless Mageia 7 has not reached its End Of Life and some of its users may have the 2.49.4 version of Iceape installed 

Even if Iceape is far behind Firefox or Thunderbird, the devs have provided the 2.53.2 version to correct some issues and contains some security fixes

If there is no update provided for Mageia 7 that would imply some security problems



But that seems to be not so easy to update ... there is this advisory from Seamonkey :

"Important only if you upgrade from 2.49.5 or an earlier version: Due to changes in the user profile, if you have set a master password, you will have to remove it before upgrading to SeaMonkey 2.53.2. After a successful upgrade, don't forget to manually remove the files key3.db and cert8.db in your profile afterwards, as they include credentials and passwords no longer protected by a master password. You can find the path to your profile folder entering the special about:support URL in a SeaMonkey browser window.
You can remove you master password by providing an empty password in the "Change Master Password" dialog. Do not use the "Reset Password" function. You will lose all stored passwords this way."



What to do ?

If they did, it seems to have already disappeared from Cauldron.

For Mageia 7, I can see just
 Modified Sat Jan 5 2019 - 2.49.4
and only one update since:
 Modified Mon Feb 11 2019 - rebuild for new libvpx 1.8.0

The politics of updating packages within releases is in:
 https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Updates_policy#Version_Policy
which suggests a 'backport' request. If IceApe/SeaMonkey had been retained, the latest version would be in Mageia 8.

Is it worth a forum discussion? - emphasising the need for someone to volunteer to maintain the package. Several people in other bugs have expressed strong feelings about this, but with no mention of being willing to take it on.

Sorry for the quiproquo about the devs I was talking about : my sentence was not clear 

I talked about the Seamonkey's devs who published the version 2.53.2 on 2020 may 2nd...
Not about the Mageia's devs who create the rpms 

NB Since it appeared, this update is provided as an update package 
for Fedora 30 31 and 32
for CentOs 7 and 8 
for OpenSuse Leap 15.1 and 15.2

(talking about .rpm based distros)

and for Slackware 14.2

Beside this, .deb based distros don't provide any package : you need to download the installer from Mozilla

If Iceape disappears from Mageia8 we can do the same thing... but what will happen when upgrading from Mageia7 to Mageia8 with Iceape installed in Mageia7 ?

What to do if no updated rpm is provided for Mageia7 ? Uninstall the Mageia rpm and download the Mozilla installer ?
How to inform Mageia users ?


Seamonkey (Iceape) is not only a web navigator (not as on the edge as Firefox)
but also an easy email and news application 
and, last but not least, a wysiwyg web editor, very easy to use 

It' a kind of Swiss army knife that lot of people use, but not having the skill to build packages

About the Mageia updates policy # version policy , I think it's more or less the same case as for Firefox or Thunderbird...

I rather suspect that dropped pkgs simply get left as they are. They may continue to work.
This happened with original Opera, which became Chropera incompatible with its predecessor, and which we did not take on board. Old Opera continued to work if you could hang on to it.

It seems really odd to me that Mageia 7 is using 2.49.4, in which audio doesn't work (it worked fine in Mageia 6, BTW).  It should be using 2.49.5; in fact, one of the main reasons there was even a 2.49.5 was so that audio would work with newer ffmpeg versions (such as the version included in Mageia 7).

Now, I'd disagree about upgrading to 2.53.x.  Most add-ons are simply broken due to the Firefox developers removing APIs, and there are no replacements as of now, as Webextensions support isn't slated until 2.57 (2.53 was merely an interim release between 2.49 and 2.57).  Upgrading to 2.53.x and thus causing everyone's installed add-ons no longer to work would surely cause more problems than it would solve.

I'm sad to acknowledge that we can't update this.

1) Backup your .mozilla directory.
2) Uninstall iceApe (urmpe iceape), as root.
3) Install upstream pre-compiled version available here: https://www.seamonkey-project.org/

You are right : The problem for Mageia 7 can be  resolved using the wiki ...
And I understand the fact that Mageia is short-in-arms

But I think I must reopen this bug report for Cauldron

It's a little more complicated when upgrading from Mageia 7 to Mageia 8 in which iceape doesn't exist anymore...

Perhaps there is the need of a wiki page to allow transition from iceape (seamonkey) to thunderbird and firefox... 
And a warning for the upgrade, or a mention in erratas

But it's not so simple because you need to copy only a part of the files of
 .mozilla/seamonkey/xxxxxxxxx.default/ 
into  
.thunderbird/xxxxxxxxx.default.release/    erasing the empty files created by Thunderbird the first time it was runned


And to to copy an other part of the files of
 .mozilla/seamonkey/xxxxxxxxx.default/ 
into
.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxxxx.default/   erasing the empty files created by Firefox the first time it was runned

iceape will not be in Mageia 8, so this bug should only stay open for the missing update for Mageia 7.

Sorry to have modified the version to cauldron, but I thought that the fact that Iceape is no more in Mageia 8 may cause problems when upgrading from Mageia7 to Mageia8 : that doesn't concern only Mageia 7...

Perhaps the title might be changed into :
" Mageia 8 doesn't provide Iceape anymore : problems when upgrading from Mageia 7 ?"

That may need a page in the wiki or some lines in the errata and a warning when upgrading 
How to move from Iceape to Thunderbird and Firefox : how to keep adressbook mails and news , and bookmarks etc... this can't be done automagically.

(obsoleting iceape is not enough ... )

Being an M7 Iceape user, I took a look at the possibility of DIY installing its current equivalent SeaMonkey on M8. But the number of noted problems for the latest release put me off; I would not want it as it currently is. Certainly it is active, but this is not the moment to take it on board.
Notwithstanding, it clearly has strong user support, and justifies being re-integrated when it is in a better state.

I have found from a trial M7-8 upgrade that it would be 'lost'; so certainly beware if you have important data in it. Mageia 7 will not disappear overnight; and can always be retained in its final state.

It's not so simple to do...

1)
First before upgrading you need to install Firefox and Thunderbird in Mageia7
let them create default profiles (for Thunderbird you have to create your accounts with your mailadress providers)

2)
Then shutdown firefox thunderbird and seamonkey

3) 
For the web browser part of Seamonkey you have to copy some files and one folder
from /home/yourusername/.mozilla/seamonkey/xyzxyz.default/
to /home/yourusername/.mozilla/firefox/xyzxyz.default/

this copy must overwrite the existing firefox files

    List of these files :
cert9.db
content-prefs.sqlite
cookies.sqlite
favicons.sqlite 
formhistory.sqlite
handlers.json 
key4.db 
logins.json 
permissions.sqlite
persdict.dat
places.sqlite

For the mail and news part of Seamonkey fortunately there's a tool in Thunderbird allowing to import mails, adress books, feed subscription etc...
Open Thunderbird and use this toll

If it doesn't work well...
Shut Thunderbird
