Description Philippe Piard 2020-05-01 22:35:03 CEST
Description of problem:
LibreOffice crashed due to a bad shutdown of the computer. Then it is not functionning anymore. But when I connect, I can see shortly a window for restoring the crashed files, but this window doesn't appear in the taskbar. By asking help in the community, I've been told by Papoteur to do Alt+Tab to let this window appear. And it works and I could restore the files and let LibreOffice work again.

Sorry for your problem (one-off?), but it seems to be already sorted thanks to advice on the forum. LibreOffice looks to have done well:
"when I connect, I can see shortly a window for restoring the crashed files"
It is not clear whether this window stayed or disappeared:
"this window doesn't appear in the taskbar ... Alt+Tab to let this window appear"
Alt/Tab is of course the normal way of cycling between windows on a desktop. Then the happy ending:
"it works and I could restore the files and let LibreOffice work again".

This does not warrant a bug as it stands.

From Philippe:
"it's a bug in the way that the restore window appears shortly (less than
half a second) and disappear. And I cannot see it in the taskbar : it
means that, I didn't have the idea of its existence, opened behind the
desk without being seen, but blocking LibreOffice. How could I do
something on a window that I couldn't see. It's just because Papoteur
told me that this window really exist  and that I could make it appear
with Alt+Tab. Maybe you won't find it as a bug, but it's a trap ! lol !

So you briefly see the restore window, then *nothing* on the desktop?
Or is the main LibreOffice window there, hiding the restore one?

Did this happen just once, or are you able to reproduce the fault? Do you really have to (say) switch off the computer for it to happen? Please say how.
Please reply on this bug, which can be re-opened.

From Philippe:
------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
which is too long to translate here, but basically reiterates the original complaint with the final proviso:
"Normally, the window offering to restore remains visible". See below.

I have tried reproducing this under LXDE by doing Ctrl/Alt/Bkspace/Bkspace to kill the ongoing session (returns to login). What I find:
- No 'automatic' LibreOffice appearance on re-logging in.
- If you start the same application that was interrupted, or re-open the document it was working on, it *does* offer to restore things with two successive restore dialogues, alone on the desktop, which stay until dismissed.
- I could not see Draw (which I used) doing its periodic automatic backup; perhaps I should have waited longer or tried Writer. This meant that the restored document was simply as last saved, changes since lost. I imagine that the restoration applies to LibreOffice's own periodic background backup.

So Philippe, some questions:
* When you re-booted the crashed computer and logged in, did LibreOffice - or rather the short-lived restore window - appear automatically? Or did you specifically re-launch LibreOffice for it to briefly appear?
* What desktop are you using?
* You can easily use Ctrl/Alt/Bkspce/Backspc to kill the session but not the computer, to try & reproduce the error.

Yes it appears automatically

> What desktop are you using?
Plasma with OpenGL 3.1

I'll try to reproduce the error and let you know

I just tried to reproduce the error but it didn't work. After
relaunching the session, the restore window appeared normally
