Description Kristoffer Grundström 2011-09-06 23:26:37 CEST
Description of problem: I went to http://www.pulseaudio.org/wiki/DownloadPulseAudio & downloaded the lastest code to see if an issue in Skype (mic-issue) was fixed upstream & I managed to compile & install it perfectly fine. The only problem now is that the gnome-volume-control-applet is missing both from the panel & the rightclick-menu when you choose to add new stuff to the panel. I've tested to play a radiostation in VLC & that works like a charm.

My Skype-issue is that using the pulseaudio-package from Mageia makes the mic not working even when trying to change the settings in PulseAudio-gui.

Using Gnome 2.32.1 in 2.6.38.8-desktop-5.mga as kernel.

How reproducible: Everytime.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to http://www.pulseaudio.org/wiki/DownloadPulseAudio in your desired webbrowser.
2. Install the deps needed.
3. Open Terminal/Console & do: git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio
4. Login as root.
5. Uninstall pulseaudio using urpme pulseaudio.
6. Exit root.
7. In the pulseaudio-dir do:

./autogen.sh
./bootstrap.sh
./configure
make

8. Now login as root to that dir by using just su.
9. Type make install.
10. Login as root.
11. Type updatedb & wait for prompt.
12. Type sync & wait for prompt.

Now reboot your computer.
See how the applet is gone.

There should be a setting in draksound to show the applet in the future.
Comment 1 Kristoffer Grundström 2011-09-06 23:28:43 CEST
Module loaded in the preinstalled pulseaudio-version is snd_hda-intel.

Soundcard is Intel Corporation|N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller
Comment 2 Kristoffer Grundström 2011-09-06 23:31:26 CEST
Driver says: Intel HDA driver (snd_hda_intel [ALSA])

Thank you for your report.

We only support official Mageia packages. As long as the applet packaged with Mageia is not showing this problem, this is not something we can / will fix.

Comment 7 Kristoffer Grundström 2011-09-07 15:09:28 CEST
If you take a look again in the description you'll see that this issue is infact to begin with in Mageia.

get-skype is packaged in Mageia
gnome-volume-control-applet is also packaged in Mageia so therefor opening this again.

Comment 8 Sander Lepik 2011-09-07 20:12:22 CEST
If the panel was working with Mageia's PA and doesn't work with compiled PA then how is this our problem?

I would still close this bug as invalid as there is probably no progress coming..

Comment 9 Kristoffer Grundström 2011-09-07 23:56:49 CEST
It worked, but not the way I wanted it to work. The mic wasn't enabled.
Comment 10 Remco Rijnders 2011-09-08 05:32:12 CEST
So, what is the real problem then? That the panel-applet you compiled disappears (we won't fix) or that Mageia's pulseaudio doesn't enable the mic? And if the latter, doesn't it work after you change the relevant settings using the appropiate tools? To me not turning the mic on by default seems a perfectly fine and acceptable setting for most users.
Comment 11 Kristoffer Grundström 2011-09-08 15:12:34 CEST
The latter issue & if you use Skype, how are you supposed to be able to make yourself heard if the mic is somehow muted?

I did use the PA-gui. Nothing good came out of it.
Comment 12 Colin Guthrie 2011-09-08 15:50:37 CEST
This is not a mageia bug, it's simply a problem relating to using self compiled packages that are conflicting with internal things. It should be closed.

The original issue of Skype + mic muting could still be a problem, but that is not the topic of this bug.
