Description w unruh 2020-04-02 00:09:47 CEST
Description of problem: I have a Logitech C920 webcam and an Epson 1660 scanner. Both work fine on their own. When I run xsane usually it presents a page asking me to choose which of the two "scanners" to use (or courwe the web cam is not a scanner) and I can choose the Epson. However if I open xsane after I have run Zoom with my webcam, xsane no longer gives me the option of opening anything and seems to be taking the Web cam as the default and not allowing me to choose the Epson. Of course the web cam cannot actually scan so if I press the scan button, it says there is a problem.

a)Why is xsane choosing the web cam by default?
b) why is it not finding the Epson scanner if I start xsane during or after a zoom session?
c)Is there some way I can force it to use the Epson, and not have the web cam as the default scanner.?

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
tunnel:0[unruh]>rpm -q xsane
xsane-0.999-11.mga7

How reproducible: Often.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.have both webcam and scanner attached When you run xsane it gives a choice between the webcam(default ) and scanner as xsane device.

2.Run video zoom session,
3.Try running xsame during zoom session. No choice is offered and the default webcam is chosen.
4. Shut down zoom. The same happens.
5. If you unplug the camera and replug it, and then run xsane, it now sees the scanner.

Without using Zoom, can you re-launch Xsane repeatedly and it always shows the scanner?
I ask in case this is related to a known problem, whereby Sane only sees the scanner once. I found the following pages relevant to *that* situation, although here one imagines that your problem only happens if you run Zoom.
 https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/SANE             [search 'webcam']
 https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/412331/scanner-is-detected-just-once

For basic diagnostics:
 $ lsusb [will show connected USB devices]
 $ scanimage -L
 $ sane-find-scanner [look for 'found' in the O/P]
which you can try before, during & after running Zoom. Does the scanner remain in these lists even when it disappears from Xsane's?

You say re-connecting the *camera* makes the scanner visible again to Xsane. What happens if you switch off/on the *scanner*?

Forgot to ask this too;
Can you please try whether the same problem arises with a different webcam application (I only know of Cheese). It would help to know whether the problem is tied to Zoom, or more general.
