You are having strange problems unique to yourself. Can you say a little about your system. To carry on (hopefully), install another display manager like lightdm, then in a Ctrl/Alt/Fn console, login as root, and do: # drakdm Change to the other display manager. Unfortunately, you often have to re-boot for the change to take effect. See whether that at least enables you to log in normally. If it does, try changing back to SDDM to see whether the original problem returns. CC:

ouaurelien No idea. Covid happened. I could get into X by logging in to a terminal and then running startx. But I have not been able to get back at my work computer-- university shut down. This bug report will stay opened to vive some further feedbacks when it will be possible. Bug to unconfirmed, needinfo. Suggest: performing above (Comment #2), or try reinstall/upgrade with classic Installer from 7.1 ISO and using online repos. If asked for /etc/sddm.conf or files in /etc/sddm.d/, please use .rpmnew file as it will prevent misconfiguration. Status:

Description of problem: When I try to log in to the sddm login screen, all that happens is that the sddm login screen freezes. The mouse works, but I can do nothing with it. None of the bottons work and the system does not log in If I do alt-ctrl-Bksp twice it reloads and I can again enter the username and password but again it freezes with that user. I can do alt-ctrl-F2 and login to the terminal and run startx -- :1 and the Plasma screen comes up ok. But sddm login is a disaster. There are no error messages (except the usual EE in /var/log/Xlog.0 that /var/run/sddm/{....} (the dots are a ong list of random characters) does not exist, when it clearly does exist But on users who can log in that same error message is in the log when they manage to log on. I have no idea what is freezing in sddm. But as it stands now, the sddm login screen is useless for me.
