This is generically simply not true. Using up-to-date Plasma, plugging in a USB external disc does indeed pop up a Device Notifier pane showing the disc and offering various possible actions/applications to open it with. [I could not get a screenshot of that, too fleeting]. It also adds a little icon in Systray, left-clicking which re-shows the original notification; right-clicking which offers Device Notifier options. Do you need to fiddle those? Is your system an upgrade from Mageia 6 to 7? Status:

UNCONFIRMED It has happened before, but resolved itself after an upgrade. https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9315 The cause for some sticks not being recognized was never identified, and the drive that was not being recognized in Mageia 3 has been ok since Mageia 5. CC:

(none) It should be noted that this worked fine in all previous releases of Mageia on this system. It's purely a regression in Mageia 7. The latest kernel update seems to have fixed this. Closing the report. It can be reopened if necessary. Status:
