So, a Plasma system. Can you say when this problem started - perhaps following a kernel or graphics driver update? To find when the kernel you are using was installed: $ rpm -qa --last | grep kernel It should be the first in the list. It looks as if you are using the latest x11-driver-video-nvidia390 (132) driver package. And the graphics hardware is NVIDIA GPU Quadro 600 (GF108GL). Do you know that you should not be using the 340 driver? I ask because it says "for GeForce 8xxx, 9xxx and 100 to 415 cards, including the associated Quadro cards" and your 108 falls here; but nVidia nomenclature is confusing. And have you tried the 'nouveau' driver? Severity:

major Sorry for the delay getting back to you. As for using version 390, not only does XFdrake use this as the default for my graphics card but it's the version that nVidia recommend if you do a search. On you recommendation I changed to version 340. It is marginally more stable but the issue is still there. The most often crash has been after Thunderbird has opened a composition window, but this may merely be a coincidence. I can't use the nouveau driver as I need OpenGL for the applications I use and it doesn't support 3D rendering. I could try using the vendor version of the driver, though it's often tricky trying to get nouveau etc. out of the way to allow it to work. This system was completely stable before the upgrade to Mageia 7 from 6. Thanks for your tests, and "version 390, not only does XFdrake use this as the default for my graphics card but it's the version that nVidia recommend ". You did not say when the problem started: from installation, upgrade, system update. Such things can happen with kernel changes. If you have older kernels (boot menu Advanced Options for...), can you try those also? Assigning to the kernel/drivers group, CC'ing KDE team. Assignee:

kernel The problem started directly after the upgrade from Mageia 6 to Mageia 7. I think I've tied this down to kwin_x11 crashing and re-starting. At least once after the lock-up kwin "forgot" to put a window decoration around one window. This has mostly been triggered by Mozilla Thunderbird opening a window but once it was merely opening the application menu. Mageia 7 is EOL since July 1st 2021. There will not have any further bugfix for this release. You are encouraged to upgrade to Mageia 8 as soon as possible. @reporter, if this bug still apply with Mageia 8, please let us know it. @packager, if you work on the Mageia 7 version of your package, please check the Mageia 8 package if issue is also present. In this case, please fix the Mageia 8 version instead. This bug report will be closed OLD if there is no further notice within 1st September 2021. Hi bug reporter and hi assignee and others involved, Please reopen this bug report if it is still valid for Mageia 8 or 9(cauldron), and change "Version:" in the upper left of this report accordingly. This report is being closed as OLD because it was filed against Mageia 7, for which support ended on June 30th 2021. Thanks, Marja Status:
