Sorry to hear of your problem. Thank you for noting the things you tried to get round it. Please say whether this problem happened immediately after installing Mageia (and how you did that); or you have done the # urpmi --auto-update successfully in the past, and it has just stopped working? What language is your system? Assigning to the sysadmin team in the hope they can deduce what is going wrong, and advise you accordingly. Assignee:

sysadmin-bugs Hi Lewis, I always have a couple of machines testing Cauldron, I installed them from scratch in July, once Mageia 7 was out. The urpmi --auto-update runs usually once a day, once a couple of days, but the last two weeks I didn't pay attention (and my logserver suffered a HDD failure), so I can't really tell you exactly when the issue started. I've asked on the discuss list yesterday, it seems like I'm not the only one experiencing this, see https://ml.mageia.org/l/arc/discuss/2020-01/msg00040.html Anyone doing a clean install of cauldron will not be affected. The only people affected by this chicken or egg first type problem are those who had cauldron installed before the update to urpmi, and did not install updates in between the time that urpmi was updated on cauldron, and the updated genhdlist2 program was installed on the Mageia infrastructure for cauldron. The list of packages affected by the update (use the mga8 version, not the mga7 version) is listed in https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25979#c1 So manually download, the packages ... https://mirror.math.princeton.edu/pub/mageia/distrib/cauldron/x86_64/media/core/release/lib64rpm9-4.15.1-3.mga8.x86_64.rpm https://mirror.math.princeton.edu/pub/mageia/distrib/cauldron/x86_64/media/core/release/perl-URPM-5.24.1-1.mga8.x86_64.rpm https://mirror.math.princeton.edu/pub/mageia/distrib/cauldron/x86_64/media/core/release/python3-rpm-4.15.1-3.mga8.x86_64.rpm https://mirror.math.princeton.edu/pub/mageia/distrib/cauldron/x86_64/media/core/release/rpm-4.15.1-3.mga8.x86_64.rpm Then install them using "rpm -i ./*.rpm". davidwhodgins Thank you, "urpmi ./*.rpm" the downloaded packages fixed the issue. Status:

RESOLVED Doesn't fix the issue for clean installs using the netinstall iso images. The iso image https://mirror.math.princeton.edu/pub/mageia/distrib/cauldron/x86_64/install/images/Mageia-Cauldron-netinstall-nonfree-x86_64.iso dated 2020-01-18 03:27, apparently does not contain the changes for rpm/urpm from bug 25979, so attempts to use it result in an error attempting to rebuild the sythesis files. Looks like the netinstall iso images need to be rebuilt with the updated packages to handle zstd compression. Resolution:

(none) (In reply to Dave Hodgins from comment #5) > > Looks like the netinstall iso images need to be rebuilt with the updated > packages > to handle zstd compression. Yep, and Jan 24 2020 Mageia-Cauldron-netinstall-nonfree-x86_64.iso has the same problem. :( CC:

tmb (In reply to Thomas Backlund from comment #7) > Its not the images that needs rebuilding... Its stage2 After new stage2 was uploaded on Cauldron, I was able to do a network install into a Virtual Box guest. Yep, fixed as of drakx-installer-stage2-18.23-1.mga8 Resolution:
