There is nt only in French but in others localisations too.

There are discussions and bug reports about this issue in a lot of distibutions, some say you can do without po files when you have mo files, others think the po files are still needed.

When they are not needed at all, but are installed by default, wouldn't this be an upstream bug, then?

Until now i know that the po files are needed for translators, after translation, the mo files are installed and used by the program. Some times can be happened accidentally some source files be installed, i reported the bug if it is the case with this rpm installation.

This message is a reminder that Mageia 1 is nearing its end of life. 
In approximately 25 days from now, Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing 
updates for Mageia 1. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it 
remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '1'.
