Description Cyril Levet 2019-09-17 23:11:04 CEST
Description of problem: When clicking "Open" (toolbar button or menu item) and selecting "all files" or any filter in the baloo window, no file is displayed. That's why it is impossible to open any file in kile.

I test the same manipulation under Plasma desktop and it works fine.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): kile-2.9.92-3

How reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install kile on Mageia 7 Gnome
2. Open kile
3. Click on the Open button
4. try to navigate on the open window
5. Choose "any files" to see all files and not only .tex
6. no file is displayed

What's happen if you install kinit?

Unfortunately, nothing change if I install kinit. The bug is still present.

Have just installed kile + its numerous & huge dependencies to try.

I tested open any file type by all means (Ctrl/O, taskbar icon, File-Open) under these desktops: Cinnamon, Mate, LXDE, Xfce; and Gnome. It worked correctly everywhere. This screenshot shows it under Gnome, the subject of this bug.

There is no doubting the error log attached by Cyril. Nor the fact that it works for me under Gnome (on a 6-desktop system). I do have baloo on my system - with no idea what it is for.
> What's happen if you install kinit?
I have that too.

@Cyril:are you able to try other desktops? You cited Plasma OK.

FWIW, here is my terminal output for kile in case it helps:

Assigning to you anyway, David, because you are the registered maintainer for kile. This may be a more a desktop issue than kile itself (which I see is Beta2, so allowed ? to be iffy).

Screnshot of Kile with error

My system is a fresh install install of a virtual machine (under virtual box) with the Gnome desktop only (from the Mageia 7 gnome iso). I have just installed it, updated it and installed kil and its numerous dependencies. I have copied some files on my $HOME/Documents folder and launch kile from the command line. As you can see nothing is displayed under kile Open window.
My disk setup is standard except that I use XFS rather than ext4 for my partitions. But I think it's not related because my other VM (Plasma) has got a more complicated disk setup (with LVM and encryption) and it works well.

I have another VM with Plasma installed from the standard iso, updated and kile installed. In this other VM kile works well.

I think the problem comes from a missing dependency. One package which come installed with the Plasma desktop but not the Gnome Desktop.

Unfortunately it will be difficult for me to create others VM because my host disk space is limited.

Kile beta-2 is normally stable. The "release" verson of kile still use KDE4 libs and not the KF5 ones. It's a very old version so I think the choice of the kile maintainer to using Beta 2 with KF5 libraries is the best.

Are kservice, sonnet and kio installed?

Log with all required packages installed

I made the following tests. I installed :
- kile (I have the initial bug)
- kinit (bug still present but no more message about kinit missing)
- kservice (change nothing)
- sonnet and its dependencies (bug still present. Messages from sonnet disappear)
- kio and its dependencies (It works, my files are correctly displayed)

It seems that "Recently saved" and "Search For" doesn't work. But it is a minor bug because it is possible to navigate on my folders and open files.
Comment 9 David GEIGER 2021-01-06 12:27:50 CET
I added the minimal default dependencies for Cauldron with kile-2.9.93-6.mga8.
Comment 10 Cyril Levet 2021-01-16 14:46:09 CET
It works. Thank's !
